Pedal with a Purpose
Sat, 20 Oct 2018 00:00:00 +0000 Local non-profits will have a chance to benefit from a new program being rolled out at Takedown Gym in Brainerd.

Pedal With a Purpose is a once-a-month indoor cycling event that donates 100 percent of proceeds to a designated non-profit each month. The event is open to the public, members and non-members; and, for $20, participants will take part in an instructor-led Bike Boss class indoor cycling choreographed to music.

Community and indoor cycling are two very important things to me, said Takedown instructor Jenny Holmes. To be able to coordinate this effort by combining those two things is very rewarding.

Pedal With a Purpose will be held the third Saturday of each month at 11 am. Class sizes are limited; however, additional classes will be added as demand allows. Each non-profit chosen will also have an opportunity to have an informational table and representatives at their respective months ride. To register for a Pedal With a Purpose session, call Takedown Gym at (218) 454-1770 or reserve your spot on the Takedown mobile app.

Non-profits interested in being considered as benefactors from a Pedal With a Purpose event are encouraged to stop by Takedown Gym for an application or email jenny@takedowngym.com

Cherish All Children: My Neighbor is Not For Sale
Mon, 12 Nov 2018 18:00:00 +0000 Join us this fall for an important faith community discussion on the prevention of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking. This four-part series will engage the community with resources from Lutheran Social Services, "My Neighbor is Not For Sale" study and conclude with a visit from guest speaker Joy McElroy, Exectuive Director of Cherish All Children, and a panel of community leaders from law enforcement, the school district and local social services.  Here’s a run-down of the four sessions: Week 1 – Oct 22nd – “What is Sexual Exploitation” Rev. John Stiles, First Lutheran Church & Joy McElroy, Executive Director of Cherish All Children, an LSS initiative. Week 2 – Oct 29th – “Safe Harbor: Support for Survivors” Kate LePage, Lutheran Social Services Week 3 – Nov 5th – “Ending Demand: Raising Healthy Boys & Men” Rev. John Stiles, First Lutheran Church Week 4 – Nov 12th – “A Call To Action” Joy McElroy & Community Forum with panel discussion “Prostitution, pornography, and stripping are indeed huge and profitable businesses. People in the United States spend more on pornography than on movie tickets or on all the performing arts combined. The low estimate of $10 billion paid for pornography annually makes it a bigger business than professional football, basketball, and baseball put together.” (Source: ELCA Statement on Commercial Sexual Expoitation)   Free and open to the public.Together we can protect our children and create communities that honor and affirm the goodness of human sexuality for us all.
